In July , two of our parishioners, Darragh and Cillian, set out from St. Patrick’s Parish, Corduff, to join the Pallottine pilgrimage to Rome. Alongside over 70 young people and leaders from around the world, they embarked on a powerful week of faith, discovery, and community in the heart of the Catholic Church.
This was no ordinary trip. It was a pilgrimage designed to deepen faith, build connections with the global Pallottine family, and inspire the next generation of disciples.
Walking with the Pallottine Family
The week began with a joyful gathering of pilgrims from across different countries. The group was united by their shared love of God and the spirit of St. Vincent Pallotti, whose legacy of mission and service continues to inspire today.
Each day included Mass and prayer, but also plenty of opportunities for conversation, cultural exchange, and fun. From the first evening, there was a strong sense of being part of something much bigger a worldwide family of faith.
Sacred Spaces and Holy Encounters
The pilgrims had the privilege of praying in some of the most important sites in Christianity:
- Daily Mass, with the highlight being at St. Peter’s Basilica, where the faith and history of the Church comes alive.
- Visits to the four major Basilicas of Rome, each one a treasure of art, architecture, and faith.
- A reflective walk along the St. Vincent Pallotti Trail, retracing the footsteps of the saint whose vision continues to guide the Pallottine family.
- A moving celebration of Reconciliation and Mass at Circus Maximus, reminding all present of the early Christian witnesses who lived and died for the faith.
Pilgrimage of Heart and Spirit
It wasn’t all solemnity there was also joy, music, and cultural sharing. Testimonies from fellow pilgrims inspired hearts, and evenings of song and prayer filled the Roman air with hope.
One of the most memorable moments was the overnight vigil at Tor Vergata. Sleeping under the stars, surrounded by prayer and music, gave the pilgrims an unforgettable experience of community and trust in God.
The week reached its high point with an audience and adoration with Pope Leo XIV on Sunday morning. To be in the presence of the Holy Father was an overwhelming blessing one that strengthened faith and gave encouragement to live the Gospel boldly.
A Blessing for Our Parish
For Darragh and Cillian, this pilgrimage was more than a trip it was a spiritual milestone. They carried with them the prayers of our parish and, in turn, brought back stories and experiences that will continue to bless our community.
We give thanks for their safe journey and for the ways God worked through this time of encounter. Their pilgrimage reminds us that faith is alive, vibrant, and shared across cultures and nations.
Let us continue to pray for them, for the Pallottine family worldwide, and for the grace to carry the joy of this pilgrimage into our daily lives here in Corduff.
